What is the difference between this master’s degree and a traditional M.S. in Bioengineering?
The Master’s of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree in Bioengineering is a non-thesis professional program that prepares students for a career in industry. Students train to be prepared to become industry leaders by completing rigorous graduate-level technical coursework combined with business training. Courses and lectures in the M.Eng. program are delivered by world-class Engineering and Business faculty and accomplished industry partners. Students who plan to work in a research laboratory setting or are on their way to earning a Ph.D. traditionally pursue the M.S. in Bioengineering degree, which typically requires a thesis.
How long is the program?
The on-campus program runs for one year – students complete their coursework in the Fall and Spring semesters, and each cohort begins in the Fall. The online program is flexible and can be completed in as little as 5 semesters. Students have 5 years to complete their online degree.
Do I have to be on campus, or can I take classes online?
For the full time, one year, on-campus program, students must take coursework physically on-campus. There is no online component available for the on-campus program.
For those completing the online program, coursework requirements can be completed remotely and typically would not include any on-campus elements.
Does my undergraduate degree have to be in bioengineering?
No; however, for those applying to the bioinstrumentation or general bioengineering concentration, because of the technical focus of the coursework, you will need to solid foundation in engineering concepts. This includes coursework in physics, advanced math (including linear algebra and differential equations), and chemistry. Coursework in biology are also beneficial.
Those applying to the computational genomics concentration need to have basic understanding of statistics, molecular genetics and computer programming, along with a bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or a related discipline.
What is the capstone project?
The capstone project is the final requirement for the M.Eng. degree. Students work in teams to apply what they have learned and solve real-world problems posed by industry partners. This experience also allows students to learn from and network with industry leaders.
Do you offer job placement assistance?
The campus offers career management services through Engineering Career Services, the Graduate College Career Development Office, and The Career Center. They are dedicated to providing career planning advice and job search support to students.
